Bilingual Risk Reduction & Social Networks Strategies Specialist
Works as part of a team.
Conducts recruitment efforts for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing and social networks strategy (SNS) among the Latino/Hispanic men who have sex with men (MSM) and Latino/Hispanic transgender women residing in Tarrant County and the surrounding area.
Identifies, enlists, and trains HIV-positive and high-risk, HIV-negative recruiters who are willing to identify and recruit persons from their social, sexual, or drug-using networks (network associates) for HIV/STD testing, that is, those network associates who might be at high risk for acquiring HIV and unaware of their HIV status.
Identifies and coordinates new HIV/STD testing site locations.
Performs HIV/syphilis/STD tests in-house and in the field, including non-traditional sites, such as client residences, etc.
Coordinates outreaches, including recruiting and utilizing volunteers, at venues the target population congregate (e.g., bars, parks, organization meetings, etc.) in order to recruit the target population for HIV/syphilis/STD screenings.
Follows all agency and program procedures and policies.
Follows all safety guidelines, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations.
Consults with Tarrant County Public Health on contact tracing and partner elicitation, as needed.
Assists coordinating Foundations of Counseling and Testing (FCT) HIV/syphilis/STD testing activities.
Performs initial and follow-up sessions per FCT guidelines for persons testing for HIV.
Maintains HIV/syphilis/STD testing client and other program-related files, such as CDBG.
Assembles, prepares, and delivers HIV/syphilis/STD blood and other specimens, as needed.
Establishes and maintains a positive rapport with community businesses (e.g., bathhouses, bars) and other organizations and agencies.
Assists in implementing community assessments for FCT.
Completes reporting and other administrative duties.
Ensures timely reporting of program process objectives.
Ensures program goals and objectives are being met.
Attends Prevention Team, agency, and other meetings, as required.
Attends local, statewide, and other trainings and conferences.
Completes time sheets accurately and promptly.
Develops and works with program volunteers.
Monitors program medical supply stock, ordering and maintenance, including biohazard waste disposal service.
Performs duties in conjunction with new initiatives and programs, as needed.
Participates in all phases of the condom outreach and distribution initiative.
Ensures HIV-positive clients enter medical care via linkage to care activities, including referring clients to Anti-Retroviral and Treatment Services (ARTAS) on a timely basis.
Bilingual English-Spanish preferred.
Makes appropriate referrals to in-house and off-site resources.
Maintain valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance or similar.
Fulfills all other tasks as assigned.
